Greek To Me Vocabulary Trainer (Below)
Vocabulary is at the heart of language learning. The Greek To Me Vocabulary Trainer was designed by PaulOfTars.us and is part of our Biblical Languages (Greek) – Level 1 course. It’s purpose is to give you a deep and lasting knowledge of the words found in the New Testament. By mastering this tool, you will learn 1,009 lemmas (dictionary root forms of words) and a total of 1,486 unique words—enough to allow you to read and understand 95% of the original Greek text of the New Testament.
Frequency-Based Learning
Words in this program are introduced in the order of their frequency in the New Testament. That means the most common and important words are taught first, giving you an immediate advantage as you begin reading. Less common words are introduced later, once you already have a strong foundation.
This method ensures that every hour you invest is directly building toward maximum reading comprehension.
Spaced Repetition for Lasting Retention
The Vocabulary Trainer uses a Leitner-style spaced repetition system to make sure you truly master words before moving forward.
- Introduced in sets of 10: New words are given to you in small, manageable groups.
- Repetition with purpose: At first, it may feel repetitive. Since you have not yet mastered any words, the system will present the same group over and over. But don’t get discouraged—this is exactly how your brain begins forming language pathways.
- Gradual progression: After three or four practices, the system will begin to recognize which words you know. These will be “promoted” and removed from your daily practice set, while new words are introduced.
- Never forgotten: Words you’ve learned will return later when they are due for review, ensuring you don’t lose what you’ve worked hard to master.
This approach balances mastery and reinforcement, allowing you to build long-term retention instead of short-term memorization.
Three Learning Modes
The program provides three modes of study. Each is designed for a specific purpose in your vocabulary journey:
- Ten Word Lessons – Introduces new vocabulary in sets of 10, with structured practice.
- Flash Cards – Another way to learn and test yourself on new words. This mode can be used alongside the Ten Word Lessons to progress through the program.
- Sentences – A review tool that allows you to practice words you have already mastered by seeing them in the context of real sentences.
How to Progress
- Use Ten Word Lessons and/or Flash Cards to steadily advance through the vocabulary.
- Use Sentences as optional extra practice, to reinforce and deepen your understanding of words already learned.
A Final Encouragement
The repetition at the beginning may feel slow, but remember—your brain is working hard to form the pathways needed for language fluency. Trust the process, keep practicing daily, and soon you’ll find that the words come naturally.
Every word you learn is another step closer to reading the New Testament in its original language.
